Empowering young people to become agents of change, we harness the power of football to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and climate resilience. Through inclusive and engaging programmes, we foster a culture of respect, equality and sustainability, enabling young people to thrive and drive positive impact in their communities.
We achieve this by building strong partnerships with local organisations, governments, and stakeholders, leveraging their expertise and resources to amplify our impact and create lasting change.

Empowering young people since 2005

Inspired by the Welsh wizard Ryan Giggs, who’s brilliance on the field undoubtedly elevated football to a whole new audience – WhizzKids United set about inspiring young people through our mantra ‘for the good in the game’.

WKU has been a leader in providing young people sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) including HIV prevention, treatment, and support since its inception in 2005.

How it works

What we do

Africaid’s WhizzKids United (WKU) is a community-based NGO that has used football to drive positive youth outcomes for over 20 years in Northern Ghana. Based at the WKU ‘Carlos Guerra’ Academy, WKU champions ‘football for good’ as a dynamic enabler of health, education, gender equality, employability, and climate action, contributing to UN SDGs 3-5, 8, and 13. The WKU Academy also houses a youth-friendly sexual health clinic. WKU’s social enterprise model generates profits to reinvest in their high-impact ‘football for good’ programs, built on strong local partnerships.

Our Projects

WhizzKids United delivers a plethora of award-winning programmes, which successfully harness football as a tool to drive positive youth outcomes. These football-based programmes address sexual and reproductive health and rights, female welfare, gender equality, life-skills development, learning through play and climate action. In addition, WKU’s academy provides a safe space for sexual health and family planning services for youth and adolescents.
